MMA fans like WMMA fights when the women are skilled
The crowd reaction tonight was massive. It showed that exciting fights always bring the money no matter what.

Looking at the UFC rankings there are about 15 women over the 4 divisions who I deem to be UFC calibre. The rest is complete garbage and should be on Fight Night prelims.

Has this been the most united the Sherdog boards have ever been?
Usually Sherdog has lots of varied opinions with fans and haters of numerous fighters going to battle every day on these boards.

But all the threads this week seem to have 99% of posters on the same page.

What do you say my fellow Sherdog bros?
Is the Jon Jones/UFC 232 debacle the biggest clusterf*** in MMA history?
Prompted by @FrankieNYC, I'm wondering whether the Jon Jones/UFC 232 debacle is conceivably the biggest clusterfuck in MMA history.

Of course, we need some distance from events - but it has to be in the conversation.

The credibility of the UFC, Dana White, Jeff Novitsky, WME, USADA, the CSAC, and Andy Foster has been shredded. The legacy and accomplishments of Jon Jones have been shredded.

We have seen the UFC suddenly pack up the carnival tent and run to another state...

If Gus wins he is the GOAT savior of MMA and the UFC.
No question Jones is a scumbag on so many levels. Yet he is truly a marvel of a fighter. If Gus can duplicate his last performance and send Jon to the hospital a bit earlier I will loose it. I rarely even yell at my screen but if Gus can pull this off I will be dancing in the street!

MMA Betters Get in Here! Gus +225 to win and +850 to finish! BET EVERYTHING
Gus is going to be so focused and smash Jones. Jones mental game will be shot after this rebooking mess. He's off roids and won't be able to press in the championship rounds. Gus will not only beat Jones via better striking, harder punches and endurance but get the finish!!

Bet365 has these odds. I put 175 on Gus and 20 on Method of victory (KO/TKO/Sub/DQ)

What does it take to be considered one of the best MuayThai fighters?
First thing that pops into my head is a fighter that's ranked highly in the main stadiums like Lumpinee and Rajadamnern but now days isn't it a little more complicated?

You have fighters who do well in the stadiums but not so much internationally based off a number of things. Over the years the stadiums have been influenced by the gamblers and even guys like Samart have come out and said its different to how it was in the golden era. International muaythai promotions CAN be judged...

same with other sports. i find it hard to believe with the benefits of being on dope and the peer pressure that your contemporaries arent clean youre gonna be dirty are you not?

i mean the money is huge and you dont really lose it. i look at local dealers in my town growing up, a few of them did long stretches in jail but came out still rich with properties, businesses that are now legit etc.

MMA media needs to do som investigating journalism on this USADA matter
I really hope the different mma media out lets can step up their game and start to do some real work and get some real answers to what just happened in the USADA/JJ matter. The questions being asked at the Jeff and Dana presser was so god awful bad, and non of the media members seems to have any clue about doping what so ever.

Best MMA one-liner comebacks
Press conferences with the right people can provide top notch entertainment. The most memorable moments are not the scripted and rehearsed trash talk bits, it's the spontaneous comebacks and shit slinging that goes on between the fighters.

My absolute favorites are:

"I beat you after a weekend of cocaine" ~ Jon Jones to Daniel Cormier

That was equivalent to a one-punch KO. Daniel Cormier likes to take the moral high ground when it comes to mental warfare against Jones. Cormier...

Bit of a shame towards the end of the year with the run of bad results , hopefully Volkanosvki closes it out with a win.

Hopefully the losses motivate rather than hinder but eyes have been opened. All of them need to take lessons from Whittaker on how to work towards a victory. Generally his game plan is on song and even when something goes wrong ie broken hand / bad leg etc he is still able to make slight adjustments to fight intelligently.

How did this guy become "Face of MMA"?
How did this guy pull off becoming "the face" of the sport and succeed where others didn't? It's bizarre.

It seems like he's on the way out now, but you have to give him credit for making it all the way to a 100 million dollar payday against Mayweather. It seems like a miracle if you really look at it.

He truly personifies perception being born into reality. Whether or not he actually has the goods to back it up....

How do post prior TRT exempt fighters still manage to compete in MMA?
Rampage, Overeem, and Hendo had been on the TRT in the UFC...and after the TRT ban (Dan weighed in at 199 lbs at LHW in his first fight post TRT ban).

How do these fighters manage to compete when their bodies are not producing natural test anymore (since TRT stops your body's natural production)?

Overeem looks very athletic and healthy (no where near Ubereem). Not deflated like Post USADA Vitor.. How does he do it? Is it just HCG? But Vitor wasn't allowed to use HCG.

Now that JJ has been removed from the equation there is only DJ who shouldn't be there anyway.

Jones's cheating was obvious to anyone with half a wit. I mean, post USADA Jones fought Saint Preux and looked like shit. If that wasn't damning evidence after he all of a sudden became a killer again against a champion then, there's no talking to ye. Why do camps let fighters get out of shape?
I feel like Max Holloway doesn't actually have issues making 145, if he stays in shape between camps. This can be said for a lot of fighters -- they get too heavy between fights and have trouble making weight (Anthony Pettis).

To me, this is a clear failure on the fighters' camps. The people around them need to be police, and demand that their fighters stay in shape and be disciplined. It can literally be a matter of life and death -- getting overweight between camps can cause...

2. Kebab (pillow fisted)
3. Jones (extremely pillow fisted)
4. Dillashaw (pillow fisted)
5. Holloway (extremely pillow fisted)
6. GSP (pillow fisted)
7. Woodley. (first KO artist on the list)

Ps.This is not a diss on fighters who are relatively weak punchers, because it only takes more skill to be a great fighter without a big KO power.
Has the good ol power double become too predictable in modern MMA?
Don't get me wrong, wrestling is still the best base of current UFC champions, but gone are the days where you can win fights with a good blast double. Seems like it's going the way of the armbar.

Unless you got some freak Askren, or Khabib level chain wrestling or slick Dagestani cheatcode grapple/wresle fuck manuevers, you can't really depend on wrestling to win fights in modern MMA and you're going to have to have great striking and power to mix up with your wrestling like Woodley, TJ,...

MMA 'Cans' - The Unsung Heroes...

Sadly, some fans seem obsessed with the W/L record, and are quick to dismiss a fighter´s career based solely on that.

Sequences during a fight are much more interesting imo, not the overall fight itself.

the fight.

Assessing a fighter´s career is generally something uneasy, especially when it comes to ol´school

About UFC Promoting Fighters...
So I was thinking today about UFC promoting fighters. The main argument against this is that fighters should promote themselves, but in every other sport i've seen athletes who are talented are promoted by their organization. I don't really watch NFL or NBA, but I can't think of any many A list celebrity athletes who have good personalities. Most basketball players and football players are dull and boring. That doesn't stop them from being extremely popular.

Chuck Liddell was a terrific puncher with concussing power in his right and left hands. I’ve come to realize us as mma fans are spoiled , greedy and need to be honest . First it’s time to accept a lot of these dudes are juicing . Nba players usually decline around 32 , mma fighters go through more extreme forms of punishment with less resources . It makes sense that guys who fight clean decline like mark hunt , I would even suggest Chris, jhonnie Hendricks and Pettis are clean . Their declines make sense.( gsp ????, is he clean ?) idk Guys need tune up fights....

If you ask the world the names of the boxers in the golden heavyweight generation (1950s - 1990s), they will tell you the names and their accomplishment but if you ask them if they could name MMA fighters from the early UFC/Pride days, no one can answer them except hardcore MMA fans.
